Joint Regional Roundtable On The Impact Of The Situation In Afghanistan On Central Asia With CA HEIs

June 19, 2021, in Khujand, Tajikistan within the framework of the UNICAC project and with the initiative of the National Erasmus+ Office in Tajikistan, Khorog State University and the Institute of Economy and Trade of TSUC have organized a national roundtable. A national roundtable bringing together field experts from Higher Education Reform Experts, Czarina Nuriddinova, Erasmus+ coordinator in Tajikistan, Nurova Sanavbar, Moscow State University branch in Dushanbe, Olga Sayfulloeva, Khorog State University and teaching and administrative staff from IET TSUC. During the national roundtable, key speakers brought the most relevant topics related to higher education internationalisation, including the importance of internationalisation strategy, international cooperation in higher education, higher education trends, etc.

This Regional Roundtable was held online on the 28th of October of 2021 and the topic was the Effects of the situation in Afghanistan on Central Asia.

Participants of the Regional Roundtable had the opportunity to listen to various speeches about different topics:

First, a talk about “The fragility of women rights under the Taliban in Afghanistan” was held by M. Nazarshoev Khujanazarov Jabbor, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Philosophy and Politics of Khorog State University.

Afterwards there was discussion on how the situation in Afghanistan will affect security in the Central Asian Region held by M. Nazarshoev Alimshoev Mamadrizo, Candidate of Historical Sciences Professor of the Department of General History and Religion, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs; Hoshimov Firuz, senior lecturer at Social Science dpt. from Khorog State University & Institute of Economy and Trade of Tajik State University.

After the coffee break, participants listened to a speech on how the situation in Afghanistan will affect universities from a students’ perspective. Hereafter, the impact of the Afghanistan crisis in Central Asia’s tourism development was discussed by Yana Arustamyan, PhD, associate professor of the Department of Theory of translation and Comparative linguistics, and Dr. Yulong Yang, Teacher, School of Marxism, from National University of Uzbekistan and Northwest A&F University

Then, there was a discussion on The impact of Afghanistan crisis in Central Asia’s’ tourism development held by M. Nazarshoev Khujanazarov Jabbor, Senior Lecturer, Department of Philosophy and Politics; Ikrom Kuchkorov, senior lecturer at World Economy dpt; and Gulnoza Odilova, DSc, associate professor of the Department of Theory of translation and Comparative linguistics (NUUZ & IET TSUC).

At the end of the Regional Roundtable, a talk about the relations between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan (yesterday and today) was leaded by Ismoilov Shukurullokh, deputy director of the Urgench branch at Tashkent University of Information Technologies. In sum, around 70 participants attended the online Regional Roundtable on the effects of the situation in Afghanistan in Central Asia.
